In Uganda, there are nearly two million children who have been orphaned because of HIV/AIDS, war and disease.

In 2008 the Kain C+C Charitable Foundation launched its Uganda Project to help relieve the plight of some of these orphans.  The Foundation sent its inaugural team to Uganda in August 2009, as part of the Uganda Project.  The next team will leave Australia on 8 August 2011 to:
  • build a students' dormitory for orphans in a small village near Kampala, Uganda’s capital. This dormitory is in the same village as the house built by the 2009 team;
  • assist in a medical clinic in the Kampala slums run by UACO (Uganda Australia Christian Outreach), a charity which started in South Australia;
  • work in an orphanage in Kampala; and
  • donate items (such as clothes, books and toys) needed by children in three orphanages in Kampala.
The Foundation is sending a team of eight to Uganda. The team comprises three Kain C+C team members - Sarah Chia, Tegan Knight and Michael Richardson. They will be joined by John Kain’s wife, Kate, and four representatives from corporate supporters of the Kain C+C Charitable Foundation - Shannon Kruschel (Two Hands Wines), Rob Shand and Leylan Neep (Blue Sky Funds Management) and Neil Oakes (Perks).

Over the past 18 months, the team has been working hard to raise money to cover the cost of building the dormitory and to provide other assistance to Ugandan orphans.

During 2011 the Foundation aims to deploy over $60,000 of funds raised in support of the Uganda Project.

The team will leave on Monday 8 August 2011. They will be sending in updates and photos while they are away which we will post on this page so watch this space.
